So for those living in the south, take some time out to enjoy the beautiful scenery before winter comes. Catch the end tail of autumn.

The most famous autumn view

Chinese netizens were once asked to pick four of the most beautiful autumn views in China, and Tachuan Village is one of them. The other three are the Fragrant Hill in Beijing, Kanas in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Miyaluo in Sichuan Province.

Tachuan Village is located in Yixian County in Anhui Province. The layout of the village aligns with the mountains to create a pagoda shape. Clear creeks wind their way through the village lighting up the whole village in the mountains. The combination of the pagoda shape and the tinkling creeks give the village its name “Tachuan”, meaning “pagoda and creek” literally in English.

Each autumn Tachuan is a favorite place of photographers with its colorful views. It boasts many old trees, including maples and camphors. The autumn colors create a land of wonder.

The most romantic autumn view

A typical scene in romantic movies is when lovers walk hand in hand walk through a road lined by trees and covered by fallen leaves. If you also want to experience this romance, go to the Ancient Gingko Corridor in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province.

This place is located at Xiaopu Badujie and it is 12.5 kilometers long. Thirty thousand gingko trees line this corridor and some of these arbors are thousands of years old.

Besides the golden gingko trees, Badujie also has a strong cultural and mythical flavor. It’s said that Liu Xiu, the founding emperor of East Han Dynasty, once hided here to evade enemies. Wuzhan Mountain at Badujie is a dreamy place made famous by an ancient astrologist.

The most zen Buddhist autumn view

Dafo Temple or Grand Buddha Temple, is located in Xinchang County, Zhejiang Province. The temple has a history of 1,600 years and it hosts a Buddha statue crowned as the number one Buddha in southern China. The 16-meter tall Buddha is carved into a mountain and is surrounded by red maple leaves.

At Dafo Temple visitors can also find the longest lying Buddha in Asia. The statue is 37 meters long. About 300 meters west of Dafo Temple is Qianfoyuan, or House of a Thousand Buddhas hiding in the woods. It houses 1,000 normal-sized Buddha statues, 1,000 small-sized Buddha statues and a single large Buddha statue.
At the gate of Dafo Temple, tourists may also find a clear pond for devoted Buddhists to free captive animals.

Tea-leaves picking started

The farmers in Zhaoping, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has already
started their spring tea-leaves picking. The pictures were taken on
February 25. Thanks to the warm winter this year, the farmers started
their work 10 days earlier than in 2006.

Hong Village enveloped in rainy weather

McDonald’s posts loss in second quarter

McDonald’s Corporation, the world ‘s biggest fast-food chain, said
Tuesday it lost 711.7 million dollars in the second quarter.

For the quarter, the loss was 60 cents per share, compared to 834.1
million dollars earnings or 67 cents per share, in the same period last
year.

“McDonald’s results reflect the financial impact of the previously
announced developmental license transaction in Latin America,” said
McDonald’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Skinner.

In April, McDonald’s announced a plan to sale 1,600 restaurants in 18
Latin American and Caribbean countries in an effort to strengthen profit.

Earnings per share, excluding exceptional items, were 71 cents, in line
with the company’s guidance.

Revenue climbed 12 percent to 6 billion dollars, from 5.36 billion
dollars a year earlier.

WNBA team Houston Comets’ guard Janeth Arcain said goodbye to Brazil’s
national women’s basketball team on Tuesday, in the final match at the
Pan American Games, in which they ended up with a loss to the US team.

Although the hosts led with a slight advantage in the first three
quarters, they did not keep the pace up to the end of the game. The
Americans, relying on their U-21 team, culminated at last to mark a final
79-66 score.

The defeat did not prevent the public at Rio’s Multipurpose Arena from
standing up and applauding Arcain, who finished the match with the ball
in her hands. The 38-year-old player left the court in tears.

Janeth dos Santos Arcain belongs to a generation of Brazilian players
that reached the highest level ever achieved in the country’s women’s
basketball. They won the Pan Am gold in Havana’s Games, in 1991, and the
FIBA World Championship in 1994, apart from the Olympic silver in 1996,
in Atlanta, USA.

Legendary players like Hortencia Marcari and Paula Goncalves took part in
the same group, but retired earlier than Arcain, who also got a bronze in
the 2000 Sydney Olympics for the team. The guard is the second top scorer
in the team’s history, with an average of 17.6 points per game.

On the WNBA website, Arcain is regarded as “the only player in the Comets
history to play in all 220 games,” and won a “Most Improved Player of the
Year” prize in 2001. She was one of the original players selected in
first draft held by the US national association, in 1997.

The Pan Am final on Tuesday also marked the farewell of the Brazilian
head coach Antonio Carlos Barbosa, who took over the women’s team for the
first time in the 1976-1984 period, and returned to the position in 1997.

Arsenal midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg has moved to Premier League rivals
West Ham United on Monday.

The 30-year-old, who joined Arsenal in 1998, has signed a four-year deal
at Upton Park for a fee that could rise to three million pounds (about
6.17 million US dollars).

“When (Thierry) Henry left this summer it felt a bit like the end
unfortunately,” the Sweden captain told a news conference at Upton Park.

“It made me a bit sad and I thought all the players that were in the
undefeated team have all left. I stayed and I want to be loyal but I
think it was the right time to go,” he said.

Ljungberg, who made more than 300 appearances and scored more than 70
goals for Arsenal, played a major role when the London club won the title
in 2003-04, being on field in 30 of entire 38 games and scoring four
times.

Last season, Ljungberg suffered a string of injuries which restricted him
to 26 appearances.

South Africa scooped up four golds in athletics on Saturday in their
striving to catch up Egypt and Algeria who are set to vie for top
position in the continent’s biggest sporting event.

South Africans swept all the medals in the men’s 400 meters hurdles, with
Louis van Zyl winning in 48.74 seconds. Pieter de Villiers finished in
second and Alwin Myburgh third.

The trio broke free after clearing the final hurdle to ensure a
convincing victory for South Africa.

Elizna Naude added to South Africa’s tally with a 58.40 meters victory in
the women’s discus and Chris Harmse won the hammer with a 76.73 metre
throw.

Janice Josephs landed at the 6.56-meter mark on her first attempt in the
women’s long jump, which turned out unsurmountable for other jumpers.She
then consolidated her grip on the gold with a daunting jump of 6.79
meters in her final attempt.

Ethiopia’s Tufa Mestawet staved off Kenya’s twin-pronged offensive to
ensure they won the All Africa Games women’s 10,000 meters title for a
straight third time.

With two laps remaining, the 23-year-old Tufa upped the tempo before
picking up the gold in 31:26.05. Masai took silver in 31:31.18 and
